The State Bar of Texas will hold its annual election for new leadership beginning April 1, with voting open throughout the month and results set to be announced on April 30.

This election is important as it determines the next leaders who will represent attorneys across the state. The outcomes may influence policy decisions and initiatives within the legal community.

Voting will take place electronically. Attorneys are advised to look for an email from Election Services Corporation, which is managing the process, with instructions on how to vote. Alternatively, voters can access their ballots by visiting texasbar.com and clicking “Vote” starting April 1.

In this year’s race for State Bar president-elect, attorneys will choose between Sarah Clower Keathley of Corsicana and Ray Thomas of McAllen. Members of the Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) will also select a president-elect from two candidates: David R. “Dave” Hagan of Longview and Claire Harbert of Waco. The winners in both elections will serve as president-elect in 2026-2027, president in 2027-2028, and immediate past president in 2028-2029.

Attorneys in certain districts within both organizations will also elect new members to their respective boards of directors. More information about the election process and candidate details can be found at texasbar.com/elections.

The upcoming results are expected to shape leadership priorities for years ahead.
