Two San Antonio residents have pleaded guilty to participating in an identity theft scheme that involved stealing mail, postal keys, and locks in the Corpus Christi area. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.
Between August 2025 and December 2025, Summer Muniz and Eusebio Valdez conspired to steal mail from hundreds of Corpus Christi residents. According to authorities, Muniz stole a postal lock while Valdez used counterfeit postal keys to access apartment building mailboxes. Muniz also used information obtained from the stolen mail to take at least $2,500 from a victim’s bank account.
Sentencing is scheduled before U.S. District Judge David Morales on June 3. Valdez could receive up to 10 years in prison for possessing the postal keys. Muniz faces a mandatory two-year sentence for identity theft and will be required to pay restitution for damages to apartment mailboxes as well as losses suffered by victims.
Both defendants remain in custody pending their sentencing hearings.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service with assistance from the San Antonio Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley A. Pruitt prosecuted the case.
