A Plano resident has been sentenced to over 16 years in federal prison for child exploitation offenses, according to an announcement from Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs of the Eastern District of Texas.

Ashley Blaine Brooks, 57, pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography and received a sentence of 200 months in federal prison from U.S. District Judge Robert W. Schroeder III on October 21, 2025.

Court records indicate that Brooks was a registered sex offender residing in Plano. During a compliance check related to the sex offender registry, detectives from the Plano Police Department found that Brooks was trading child pornography using his computer equipment, the Internet, and a peer-to-peer file sharing platform.

The investigation was conducted by the Plano Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa Miller prosecuted the case.

“This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
