Renee Jackson has filed a lawsuit that brings to light grave allegations of medical negligence and misconduct at a prominent Houston hospital. The complaint, lodged on February 25, 2026, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, accuses Memorial Hermann Hospital Southeast and its staff of actions leading to the untimely death of her sister, Van Michelle Jackson.

The heart-wrenching narrative begins with Renee Jackson’s assertion that her Power of Attorney over her sister was disregarded by the hospital staff, resulting in unsafe medical procedures. According to the complaint, this oversight led to the insertion of a PEG tube against Renee’s wishes, which ultimately caused Van Michelle Jackson to vomit violently and suffer cardiac arrest. Despite possessing a valid Power of Attorney since 2008 and an updated version from December 2025, ICU doctor Dr. Enash Moodley allegedly instructed staff not to honor it during Van Michelle’s stay from November 5 until her death on December 22, 2025.

Renee Jackson details multiple grievances filed against the hospital for neglectful incidents prior to her sister’s death. She recounts how her sister fell out of bed on July 23, 2025, an incident discovered by charge nurse Elizabeth who claimed ignorance about how long Van had been on the floor. Renee alleges that despite numerous complaints submitted through Ethicspoint—a portal she later found to be fraudulent—her concerns were never addressed.

The complaint further outlines instances where hospital staff bypassed Renee’s authority as Power of Attorney holder by seeking consent from Van’s children for risky treatments. Renee accuses Dr. Moodley of keeping her sister in a medically induced coma unnecessarily and ignoring EMT reports indicating Van was stable upon arrival at the hospital. She asserts that Dr. Moodley recommended hospice care while withholding vital information about her sister’s condition.

In seeking justice for what she describes as “neglect, medical misjudgment and abuse,” Renee Jackson is demanding $5 million in damages for emotional anguish and wrongful death. Her plea includes requests for a jury trial where all evidence can be presented fairly.

This case is being pursued pro se by Renee Jackson herself without legal representation against defendants Memorial Hermann Hospital Southeast and Maureen Semple-Hirsch as contact representative for the institution.
