Samantha Young, a dedicated educator, has filed a lawsuit against her employer, alleging racial discrimination and retaliation in the workplace. On February 17, 2026, Young submitted her complaint to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, accusing the Fort Bend Independent School District of discriminatory practices that have hindered her professional growth and well-being.
The complaint reveals that Samantha Young, an African American teacher with six years of experience at Austin Parkway Elementary School in Fort Bend County, Texas, believes she has been subjected to unfair treatment based on her race. According to Young’s filing, despite completing all necessary training and receiving high approval ratings from parents during her initial years teaching Gifted and Talented (GT) classes, she was unjustly removed from these assignments. In contrast, similarly qualified white teachers were allowed to retain their GT teaching roles. Young contends that this decision was not communicated to her as being due to any lack of qualifications until it surfaced during an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) process.
Young further claims that throughout her tenure with the school district, she was disproportionately assigned students requiring special education services or behavioral interventions—students classified under SPED and 504 plans—while white teachers received more favorable class compositions. Despite raising these concerns with Principal Audrey Macklin and later with Human Resources, no corrective measures were taken. Instead, Young faced reassignment to more demanding positions with heavier workloads following her complaints.
In addition to experiencing increased stress and anxiety due to these assignments, Young asserts that these actions have delayed her pursuit of National Teacher Certification and other professional advancement opportunities. She argues that this pattern of discrimination is not isolated but part of a broader practice within the district affecting African American teachers disproportionately compared to their white counterparts.
Young’s lawsuit includes two counts: race discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and retaliation for engaging in protected activities by reporting discriminatory practices. She seeks various forms of relief from the court including back pay, front pay, compensatory damages for emotional distress, punitive damages, attorney’s fees, pre- and post-judgment interest, and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court.
Representing herself as a pro se plaintiff in this case is Samantha Young. The case is presided over by Judge Nathan Ochsner under Case ID 4:26-cv-01249.
