Christopher S. Dorsey has taken legal action against a major car rental company, alleging a series of workplace injustices that have significantly impacted his life and career. On November 18, 2025, Dorsey filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas against Avis Budget Group d/b/a AB Car Rental Services, Inc., claiming discrimination, retaliation, and violations of labor laws.

Dorsey’s complaint outlines a troubling sequence of events during his employment with Avis at the William P. Hobby Airport location in Houston, Texas. Hired as a Service Agent in October 2024, Dorsey transitioned to permanent status by February 2025. Despite being classified as part-time, he consistently worked full-time hours without receiving appropriate pay or benefits. His supervisors allegedly instructed him to underreport hours to avoid overtime payments, which he claims is a violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Furthermore, Dorsey raised concerns about unsafe working conditions and was met with hostility from management rather than support.

The situation escalated when Dorsey was involved in an incident on April 10, 2025, where he was intentionally struck by a coworker driving a vehicle. The attack left him with significant injuries including a rotator cuff tear and lumbar strain. Despite reporting the assault and seeking medical attention through workers’ compensation channels, Dorsey faced resistance from his employer. Management not only minimized his injuries but also retaliated by removing him from work schedules and effectively terminating his employment without notice or continued pay.

Dorsey’s lawsuit accuses Avis of disability discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for failing to accommodate his medical restrictions post-injury. He asserts that after initially providing light-duty work, Avis abruptly ended this accommodation and refused further cooperation regarding his return to work under modified duties. This lack of support compounded his physical and emotional distress.

In addition to seeking justice for these grievances, Dorsey claims that Avis retaliated against him for filing safety complaints and pursuing workers’ compensation benefits—actions protected under both federal law and Texas state law. The retaliation included threats of job loss if he pursued the matter further and eventual cessation of pay.

Dorsey’s legal team is pursuing several forms of relief from the court: back pay for lost wages due to wrongful termination; compensatory damages for emotional distress; punitive damages for malicious conduct; unpaid overtime wages; liquidated damages; attorneys’ fees; and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court.

Represented by Amy Carter and Taylor Jenkins from Carter Law Group PC based in Dallas, Texas, Dorsey’s case will be heard before Judge [Name Not Provided] under Case ID 4:25-cv-5522.
