A Michigan man identified as Jeremy Christopher Ford was taken into custody and faces federal charges for unlawfully possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, Acting U.S. Attorney John G.E. Marck announced on April 23. Ford, also known as Allstar JR, allegedly opened fire at a restaurant on Kirby Drive in Houston earlier this month.
The case has drawn attention due to the violent nature of the incident and its aftermath. Authorities say Ford fired multiple shots during an altercation inside the restaurant on April 8, injuring at least two people and striking a third individual. According to court documents, Ford picked up a handgun that had fallen to the floor during a confrontation and began firing as patrons attempted to flee.
Ford is accused of continuing to shoot while individuals ran toward an elevator and then returning to fire additional rounds into one victim who was lying motionless on the ground. Law enforcement officers later recovered a handgun that Ford allegedly hid before leaving the scene.
The criminal complaint further alleges that after fleeing, Ford posted several videos on social media referencing and taunting those involved in the altercation, as well as releasing a music video related to the shooting. The documents state that because of his prior felony conviction, federal law prohibits him from possessing firearms or ammunition.
If convicted of these charges, Ford could face up to 15 years in federal prison along with a maximum fine of $250,000. The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation with assistance from Houston Police Department; Assistant U.S. Attorney Keri L. Fuller is prosecuting the case.
