A Mexican national residing illegally in Tyler, Texas, has been indicted for a federal firearms violation. Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced the charge against Marco Imanol Ferrusca-Ortega, 23, following a federal grand jury indictment in the Eastern District of Texas.
The indictment claims that on July 8, 2025, Ferrusca-Ortega was found illegally in the United States and in possession of a firearm. This case is part of “Operation Take Back America,” a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration and dismantling transnational criminal organizations.
Ferrusca-Ortega faces up to 15 years in federal prison if convicted and may also face deportation. The investigation involves multiple agencies including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration; Homeland Security Investigations; and the Tyler Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dustin Farahnak is prosecuting the case.
It is important to note that a federal indictment does not imply guilt, as all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
