A federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas has indicted Juan Saucedo-Espinoza, a 53-year-old Mexican national residing illegally in Athens, Texas, for reentering the United States after previous deportations. The announcement was made by Jay R. Combs, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas.
According to the indictment, Saucedo-Espinoza was identified as a Mexican citizen while in the Henderson County Jail and found to be present in the country unlawfully after having been deported to Mexico at least twice before. If convicted, he could face up to ten years in federal prison and subsequent deportation.
This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative led by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration and combating cartels and transnational criminal organizations across the country.
The investigation is being conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Noble.
“A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” stated officials.
