A Mexican national residing illegally in Splendora, Texas, has been indicted on charges related to child exploitation. The announcement was made by Jay R. Combs, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas.
Henry Alberto Calix-Martinez, 24, is accused by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas of producing and distributing child pornography. According to the indictment, Calix-Martinez allegedly sexually exploited a minor through these acts.
If found guilty, Calix-Martinez could face up to 30 years in federal prison.
The case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.
Homeland Security Investigations is handling the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph R. Batte is prosecuting the case.
“A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” according to the press release.
