A 34-year-old man, Xavier Edmond, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of assaulting and interfering with a federal officer. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.
Edmond is currently in custody and will be arraigned soon.
According to the indictment, the incident took place on February 4 at the Bob Casey Federal Courthouse in Houston. Edmond allegedly tried to bypass security screening when a court security officer intervened. “A court security officer quickly approached Edmond and attempted to escort him from the lobby area, but Edmond swung his fists, pushed the officer, and threatened to kill him, according to the allegations. The charges further allege Edmond spit on the officer before additional security intervened and arrested him.”
If convicted, Edmond could face up to eight years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The investigation was conducted by the Department of Homeland Security – Federal Protective Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Martin is handling the prosecution.
