In a recent filing at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Jerry Gill, a 79-year-old man with Alzheimer’s, has lodged a complaint against Deputy Joseph Castillo of the Waskom Police Department. The case stems from an incident where Gill alleges he was subjected to excessive force by law enforcement officers. The altercation began when Officer Eric Collier responded to a disturbance call at Gill’s residence. Despite being informed that Gill’s weapon had been secured and he posed no threat, Castillo allegedly tased and drive-stunned Gill twice without provocation or resistance. The lawsuit claims violations of Gill’s Fourth Amendment rights and seeks damages for physical injuries and mental anguish resulting from the encounter.
