A man from Jefferson, Texas, has been arrested following allegations that he assaulted a mail carrier in the Eastern District of Texas. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Alton Ray Jackson, 43, faces charges for assaulting a federal employee. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Roy S. Payne on March 6, 2026, for his initial court appearance.

If convicted, Jackson could receive a sentence of up to eight years in federal prison.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative led by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.

The investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Jefferson Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dustin Farahnak and Whitney Tharpe are prosecuting the case.

“A federal complaint is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” according to the statement.
