A Galveston resident has been sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking in the Eastern District of Texas. Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced that Alan Anthony Gomez, 29, received an 87-month sentence after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on July 30, 2025.
Court documents show that in November 2022, Gomez was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation in Liberty County. Authorities detected the smell of marijuana from the vehicle and noted inconsistencies in the accounts given by Gomez and the driver regarding their recent whereabouts. During a search, law enforcement officers found marijuana, air fresheners, and nine kilograms of powder cocaine bundled together. Gomez informed law enforcement that the bundles contained cocaine rather than fentanyl.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Grove prosecuted the case.
