A federal inmate has received an additional prison sentence for threatening a prison official in the Eastern District of Texas, U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced on March 11.

The case highlights the seriousness with which threats against federal officials are treated by law enforcement and the justice system.

John Robert Bond, age 55, pleaded guilty to making threats against a federal official and was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Michael J. Truncale. According to information presented in court, Bond stated on May 25, 2025, that upon his release from prison he intended to “blow up” the home of one of the administrators at the Federal Correctional Complex in Beaumont. Bond had been scheduled for release on June 13, 2025.

Following this threat, jailers searched Bond’s belongings and found notes describing the administrator and the location of their home. As a result of these findings, Bond was charged with a criminal violation and not released as planned.

This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, described as a nationwide initiative using Department of Justice resources to address illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime perpetrators.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys John B. Ross and Chris Jackson.
