The District Court for the Northern District of Texas, in partnership with the Dallas Bar Association, announced on May 1 that it will co-sponsor a free virtual continuing legal education (CLE) event under the POWER Act. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20 at 3 p.m. Central Daylight Time.

The program aims to highlight how pro bono legal representation can positively affect victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse. Organizers say the national program is designed to raise awareness about advocacy efforts and encourage participation in pro bono work.

Jennifer R. Rawlings, Senior Contracts Manager at Yale University and Co-Director of the Center for Indigenous Peoples Rights, will serve as this year’s guest speaker. The Honorable Laura Taylor Swain, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York, will moderate the session.

The event will last approximately 50 to 65 minutes. Registrants who sign up by May 15 will receive a Microsoft Teams invitation two days before the program begins. After attending, participants may claim one hour of ethics CLE credit from the State Bar of Texas by emailing their name, bar number, and three code words shared during the presentation to USDCemergencyfile@txnd.uscourts.gov.

This initiative continues efforts by local courts and bar associations to support ongoing education within the legal community while emphasizing service to vulnerable populations.
