Darren Williams, a disabled Navy reservist, has filed a lawsuit against Reworld Waste, LLC in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The complaint alleges violations of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act (TCHRA). Williams claims he was discriminated against and retaliated against due to his military service and disability. After being hired by Reworld Waste in December 2024, Williams faced issues regarding his military duties and medical appointments, which he disclosed prior to employment. His manager expressed concerns about his military service, leading to a lack of support and eventual termination in January 2025 for reasons tied to protected absences. Williams seeks back pay, reinstatement or front pay, compensatory damages, punitive damages, liquidated damages under USERRA, attorneys’ fees, and other relief.
