A Dallas man, Thomas Keithlun Brown, has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm as a felon. This announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Nancy E. Larson.

Brown, aged 26, had previously pled guilty in September 2024 to the federal offense of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His sentence was handed down on June 18, 2025, by United States District Judge Ed Kinkeade.

Prosecutors advocated for the 70-month sentence due to Brown’s history of assaulting women and his prior domestic violence convictions.

This case is part of the Domestic Violence Initiative led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas. The initiative aims to prevent domestic abusers from obtaining firearms through federal prosecution efforts. Evidence indicates that gun violence is often linked with domestic violence and that individuals with a history of domestic abuse pose a significant risk of committing homicide.

The investigation was carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Denton Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys John Boyle and Luis Suarez prosecuted the case.
