A McKinney man was sentenced on April 7 to 87 months in federal prison for his role in the robbery of a firearms store in the Eastern District of Texas, according to U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Brandon Elliott Bennett, age 22, pleaded guilty to conspiracy of theft from a federal firearm licensee and theft from a federal firearm licensee. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant.

Court records show that on May 5, 2024, Bennett and others conspired to rob Mister Guns, a licensed gun store located in Plano. The group used a vehicle to ram into the front entrance of the business, causing significant damage by knocking off the entrance door. Once inside, Bennett used a sledgehammer to break several glass display cases and stole more than 60 firearms including rifles, handguns, and pistols before fleeing the scene and later selling the stolen weapons for profit.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative led by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Chalana A. Oliver prosecuted it.
