A man and woman from Beaumont have been indicted on federal charges in connection with a carjacking that took place in June 2025, according to an announcement by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs for the Eastern District of Texas.

Jason Lee Smith, 28, and Joanna Kyle Glover, 33, were named in a two-count indictment returned this week by a federal grand jury. The indictment alleges that on June 28, 2025, Smith—while armed with a firearm—and Glover forcefully took a vehicle from another person. Both individuals are charged with carjacking, while Smith faces an additional charge of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

“This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).”

If convicted, both defendants could receive up to 15 years in federal prison for carjacking. Smith could face up to life in prison if found guilty on the firearms charge.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Beaumont Police Department are investigating the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Reynaldo P. Morin is prosecuting.

“A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
