A Beaumont resident, Koy Wayne Dodd, 42, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas for allegedly being a felon in possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

If found guilty, Dodd could face up to 15 years in federal prison.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice that aims to address illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Beaumont Police Department are investigating the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Russell James is handling the prosecution.

“A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” according to the statement from authorities.
