Barbie Robinson, former executive director of Harris County Public Health, has filed a lawsuit against Harris County, Texas, alleging violations of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Robinson claims she was subjected to racial discrimination and retaliation after reporting discriminatory conduct by Commissioner Adrian Garcia. Despite receiving positive performance feedback throughout her tenure, Robinson was terminated while on FMLA leave. The lawsuit seeks various forms of relief including compensatory damages and attorneys’ fees.
