Alistair B. Dawson was posthumously named a recipient of the 2026 Texas Legal Legend award during a ceremony at South Texas College of Law Houston on April 23.

The State Bar of Texas Litigation Section presents this award to lawyers who have shown outstanding professional skill and dedication to serving others. The honor preserves the stories of notable lawyers who have practiced in Texas.

Dawson, who died in August 2025, was known for his work as a partner and trial lawyer with Beck Redden in Houston. He handled many cases involving commercial litigation, intellectual property, and energy disputes. His career earned him recognition as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), according to a press release.

He also served as chair of the State Bar of Texas Litigation Section from 2007 to 2008, president of the Houston Bar Association from 2017 to 2018, chair of the Texas Bar Foundation from 2022 to 2023, and as a member or leader on several other boards supporting legal aid and access to justice for low-income Texans. Dawson taught at both University of Houston Law Center and Notre Dame Law School, served on the Texas Supreme Court Advisory Committee helping develop court procedures, and received awards such as the Garland R. Walker American Inns of Court Professionalism Award (2025), Judge Sam Williams Award (2023), ADL Karen H. Susman Jurisprudence Award (2021), along with multiple presidential citations from the State Bar.

The Texas Bar Association promotes diversity, inclusion, equal access to justice, supports ethical standards for lawyers across more than 100,000 members statewide through programs like legal education and pro bono services. It operates under an elected board according to its official website, utilizing resources such as the Texas Bar Center for administrative operations while serving communities throughout Texas.
